tippecanoe and tyler, too

I spent 20 minutes deciding how to crop this photo. The original has the entire canoe in it and is not particularly compelling, but something about this woman’s pose was interesting.

Anxiety about school and not finding a job this summer is getting to me. I had a nightmare in which my thesis advisor handed out some sort of puzzle-type task involving a device suspiciously similar to a Lite-Brite. I worked and worked and just could not figure out what the hell I was supposed to be doing. I was yelled at: “You need to leave. You obviously aren’t interested in school.”

Which was true, actually. I had no real desire to spend hours of my life stressing out over a Lite-Brite. But I kept on, anyway.

Later, everyone else had gone home and I was still there trying to begin. I think the dream dissolved shortly after into a vague sense of failure and discontent. Perhaps a more palpable feeling of what I am carrying around these days anyway.

Meh, whatever. I think I’m also just sad because some old friends were visiting and they’ve left. Hanging out with them is like finding a home you’d forgotten you had. It also makes me nostalgic for a time when things seemed clearer. Not that they were, but that’s nostalgia for you.

Hey Eric… Do you have a link to the original picture of the woman in the canoe? I’d like to see the context of the crop you have…

    Thanks…

hey Khanh - always a pleasure to “see” you here. here’s a link to a scaled version of the original:

How would you have cropped it? I often find there are too many possibilities for cropping … especially if you don’t limit yourself to a 3×2 ratio or something similar. It can take forever to decide.
