I just uninstalled Google Desktop. I installed it on my home machine after its release a couple of weeks ago. Granted, that machine has only been on an hour or so each day, but Google Desktop was still indexing, and was causing weird problems … typically after sleeping the machine and waking up again, something wouldn’t be right. Apps would slow to a crawl, XCode refused to complete a build and then wouldn’t quit, my system user account prefs were trashed … not cool. It’s like the indexer held onto a file lock and wouldn’t give it up again after waking up. I don’t know.

Anyway, between Spotlight and Quicksilver (especially with its Web Search module … holy crap!), I don’t really see what Google Desktop was offering me.

Seriously, Quicksilver never fails to impress me.

My hosting company is carbon-neutral. Yay Dreamhost! Occasionally beleaguered*, often maligned, but I maintain, nonetheless, in the face of everything, a darn nifty hosting company.

Green Web Hosting! This site hosted by DreamHost.

Someday this kind of thing won’t be trendy and marketing-driven, but taken for granted. I hope.

* I don’t think I’ve ever used that word without irony.

… for there was nothing left to parody

Rubber-necking: FOX News.com: Did the Devil Make Him Do It?.

Now, read that bit of “news” and imagine that it’s being presented by Daily Show correspondent Rob Riggle.

It works, doesn’t it? “Could Cho have been possessed … by … the Devil?” It works!

I particularly like how the reporter provides this bit of unattributed “news” at the end: “The battle of good vs. evil in all of us is not a simple choice between two forks in a road, but a cosmic war being waged over our souls.” Oh, is that so?

smelly and rude, too

Big Music is an ugly, brainless brute. Congress can get it to chill the hell out. Here is a resource for taking action.
