this decision will be entirely rationalized i mean rational
My current phone plan is about $60/month. The basic iPhone plan is about $60/month and includes unlimited free data and lots more SMS messages than I currently get through Verizon. The upfront cost is about $600, which is about $25/month over the required 2-year contract. So are unlimited data and all the other features of iPhone (eg, also being an iPod, which I’d be buying soon anyway otherwise) worth $25/month? I have to say, I’m leaning towards yes.

Do it! We all are!

Don’t do it! Please! Think of your family! Just Kidding. Should I do it also?

Even better, cut the $600 by the $300 you’d have spent on a iPod and you’re only looking at an additional $12.50/month.
Plus, I need you to get one so I can play with it.

Buy one, but not yet… This thing is so over hyped.. The only reason you get unlimited is because of that bullshit edge data… Wait for the 3G to roll out next year. The iPhone will be obsolete 20 minutes after you buy it. The only way to rationalize waiting in line for 12 hours is fashion and vanity. Good luck.

Hey Tom. =)
“The only way to rationalize waiting in line for 12 hours is fashion and vanity.”
… and the fact that my current phone’s contract is ending. And my current phone has no data, no music, no photos, no mail, no google maps …
I’m with you on the immediate obsolescence. I know they’ll have something better in 6 months and I’ll be jealous. But since I can rationalize the price away, I figure I might as well switch now and enjoy the benefits rather than get locked into another contract with Verizon, which they’ll undoubtedly require if I want to upgrade my phone.
But then there are still doubts …
