At home, in front of the computer, as my sister yelled from downstairs “He won!” Of course, I had peeled myself away from the television earlier after seeing that he had 207 electoral votes with California not even counted. I knew it was in the bag.

Oddly enough, the speech that drove me to tears was not of the victor, but of the one who lost. It was the first time since I’d started paying attention to the campaigns that I felt both respect and compassion for the man. As crazy or inept as he was, I got the feeling that he was genuinely trying to do what he thought was good for his country.

I then spent the rest of the night nervously monitoring the Prop 8 results as they slowly trickled in. By the end of the night, I wondered why I even bothered.

this tumbled out of a loose head with a fuzzy still-sleeping control freak and intimations of interconnectedness … it was fun. then i started thinking about it and trying to control it, and so i have my doubts about its future. hm, bummer.

I believe there’s a science fiction novel in your near future or your near past, or perhaps not-relative to time at all, but somewhere in you… Such a good writer. You might need a pen name though. Like.. Sklyar Smith, Galaxy Jones.. Errrr…

Have you ever heard of the book ‘Finding Flow’ by Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi? He suggests that happiness is directly related to the amount of time we spend in the meditative state of “flow,” meaning “effortless concentration.” Those times when you lose track of time, lose track of yourself, melt completely into whatever you’re doing. Perhaps that is… non-attachment. Hmmm.
